From Bergen County to Ecuador ~ SIR JUNK Sponsors Team Peru at the West Orange High School World Cup Tournament
At SIR JUNK, we’ve always believed that community is bigger than a zip code. So when a group of West Orange High School students came to us with a bold idea ~ and the drive to back it up ~ we didn’t hesitate. We supported them through the Shark Tank pitch competition, sponsored Team Peru on the field, and showed up to cheer them on every step of the way.
It Started With a Pitch
Earlier this year, West Orange High School students competed in a Shark Tank-style pitch competition organized by TEEEM (The Empathy, Equality and Entrepreneurship Mission) ~ a Pompton Plains-based nonprofit that connects North Jersey teens with global humanitarian causes. Going up against teams from Ridgewood, Fair Lawn, and other area schools, the West Orange students pitched their vision: an expanded FIFA-style World Cup Soccer Tournament to raise funds for emergency home building in Ecuador.
SIR JUNK was proud to be part of that journey from the start ~ supporting the team as they made their case to local business leaders and walked away with $1,300 to bring their idea to life. Watching young people stand up and pitch a plan to change lives on the other side of the world? That’s exactly the kind of leadership we believe in.
The Tournament
On May 29th, Lincoln Field at West Orange High School was transformed into something truly special. Eleven teams ~ some representing actual FIFA World Cup nations, others representing the heritage of the students themselves ~ took the field with full kit, fierce competition, and a whole lot of heart. There was a halftime show, the school band, a dance showcase, and a gleaming gold replica of the FIFA World Cup trophy waiting for the champions.
TEEEM’s mission is exactly what its name suggests ~ Empathy, Equality, and Entrepreneurship. The organization partners with more than 120 schools across the U.S. and Canada, reaching thousands of students and supporting communities in ten countries. The funds raised go directly toward real, tangible impact ~ in this case, helping build a community center in Ecuador for families who need it most.
Team Peru Takes the Field
As a proud sponsor, SIR JUNK put our name on Team Peru’s jerseys ~ and our own social media marketer, Kat, was right there on the sidelines to cheer them on in person. The team came out strong, winning their first match and bringing serious energy to the day. Team Colombia ultimately claimed the trophy, but Team Peru played with the kind of hustle and heart that made every moment worth celebrating. Seeing those jerseys with the SIR JUNK name flying across the field wasn’t about advertising ~ it was about showing up for young people doing something genuinely remarkable.
World Cup Energy, Local Heart
The timing of this tournament couldn’t be more fitting. The 2026 FIFA World Cup is officially underway, with the championship match scheduled for July 19th right here in our backyard at MetLife Stadium. Soccer fever is running through every corner of North Jersey ~ and these West Orange students channeled that excitement into something that will outlast any final score. While the world watches the pros compete on the global stage, these kids reminded us that the most meaningful goals are the ones scored for others.
